Description

The requirement is to provide a replacement Postgraduate Development (PDR) Management Information system for that which was implemented in September 2011.

The PDR is a University wide web-based application that is accessible to all postgraduate research (PGR) students and all staff involved in the career of a research student (supervisor(s), postgraduate research tutors, advisors, external supervisors, research groups, members of transfer assessment panel and administrators).

The PDR has been developed to support agreed University-wide processes relating to the recording of interaction between research students and their supervisors at the University of Leeds. Specifically, the system has been developed to support;
• Recording of formal supervision meetings
• Recording student training
• Transfer from provisional registration
• Formal reports on student progress

The initial driver for the project was a legal obligation to monitor attendance to meet UK Border Agency (UKBA) arrangements for Tier 4 visas for overseas adult students studying in the UK. The PDR will support UKBA and University requirements by monitoring at least ten contacts between full-time postgraduate research students and supervisors p.a. (five p.a. for part-time students).

The Project wants to build on the success and benefits of the existing system by providing enhanced services to research students, faculty/school staff, student administration staff and examiners.
