Description

The School of Paediatrics has delivered formal training for new registrars as an
University led Diploma course in Child Health for over 20 years giving paediatric trainees the opportunity to get an additional formal qualification during their paediatric training while covering core requirements of their curriculum. There has also been the opportunity to undertake a third research year to complete a Masters in Child Health.

While the school wishes to continue to offer this opportunity to trainees it has become apparent that over time working patterns of trainees and requirements for formal training have changed and need to be in line with recent changes to the paediatric curriculum and forthcoming changes associated with the Shape of Training reform1,2,3.

The School of Paediatrics in Yorkshire and the Humber is therefore looking for a provider to deliver a comprehensive formal education programme for paediatric trainees who have completed core training and enter speciality training. These trainees will have completed the RCPCH examinations and most will have already worked at registrar level for one year. Trainees will now either complete training in general paediatrics to work as a General Paediatrician or will have been appointed to subspeciality (grid) training.

Training will need to be flexible to fit around the demands of a busy paediatric registrar post but also provide the opportunity to gain additional qualifications while covering core competencies as laid out in the paediatric generic and general paediatric Progress curriculum. Core training modules will need to be delivered at least once a year to provide flexibility and it is anticipated that training should be delivered in a blended format incorporating online and face to face training. The training needs to be supported by an online platform.
