Description

Skanska is preparing to deliver the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet Improvement Scheme on behalf of National Highways. This package is for supplying instrumentation and monitoring solutions as follows;

Measurement of settlement is required at selected earthwork locations as outlined in the Series 600 Numbered Appendices for Earthworks document and scheme specific drawings. Within the series 600 numbered appendices the locations of the instrumentation are shown in Table 6/12.1 and Drawings in Table 6/3-1. The instrumentation shall comprise magnet extensometers and surface settlement monitoring points.

The Contractor shall provide, install, protect and maintain for the duration of the contract the instrumentation indicated in Table 6/12-1 and described in Appendix 6/12. The Contractor shall provide the equipment necessary to monitor the instrumentation. Termination of earthworks monitoring before the end of the contract is only acceptable with the agreement of the Design Organisation.

The instrumentation shall be installed under the supervision of the Design Organisation, by the appointed Instrumentation Contractor. At least two weeks prior to the installation the Contractor shall provide a method statement giving details of the proposed instrumentation and its installation to the Design Organisation. Standard Details of the monitoring points can be found on drawing HE551495-MOTG-HGT-CONWI_CONW-DE-CE-06506.

Instrumentation shall be installed as soon as practical after the earthworks are constructed to full height. The extensometers will be constructed within a borehole, formed from the finished surface level of the earthwork. Settlement monitoring points shall be constructed at the surface of the finished earthwork.

l instrumentation shall have its head level and position monitored to allow potential adjustments, to be agreed with the Design Organisation. Each instrument shall be adequately marked with its reference number.
