Description

The University of Manchester plans to purchase a bespoke thermal cycling rig using water steam atmosphere at ambient pressure. The water vapour oxidation system needs to be able to test 18-24 off 25 mm by 25 mm test pieces at a time in a horizontal automated cyclic furnace with controlled water vapour (steam) in air environments. The high-temperature cycles are typically 1 hour at 1250°C-1350°C followed by 30 min cooling in air. The system should be capable of recording the key parameters of the test and monitoring the cool down of the specimens.

The University of Manchester will be home to a new national research and innovation centre in advanced materials, the Sir Henry Royce Institute (SHRI). Partners, comprise the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial College London, along with National Nuclear Labs (NNL) and the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE).
