Description

The National Physical Laboratory [NPL] requirement is for our work on compact microresonator-based soliton frequency combs. The tunable laser will be used as a seed source that pumps whispering gallery microresonators for the frequency comb generation.

Tuning is required to match the laser wavelength with the resonance wavelength of the microresonator mode. In addition, the tunable laser could also be used in experiments related to counterpropagating light as a tunable light source to induce spontaneous symmetry breaking and prove the microresonator state. For these experiments we therefore need a widely tunable light source with narrow linewidth.
