Description

The University is inviting tenders on the terms set out in this ITT for the design, supply, delivery and installation of a Distillation Column Design.

Options for tendering:
Option 1 Design only (Technical documentation to support a tendering process for a detailed design, fabricate, erect and commission contract to be managed by Lancaster University)

Option 2 Sub-contracted Fabrication and Installation
(Installation of a complete rig. All stages delivered and or managed for Lancaster University)

Option 3 Design plus In-house Manufacturing.
Where capability exists within a single operating organisation (Installation of a complete rig. All stages delivered for Lancaster University)

Please confirm which bidding option your submission will be against, we are happy to receive submissions on more than one option, clearly indicate in your return.

The University invites tenders for the Design only or the Design, Fabricate and Install of an adaptable pilot scale distillation column for educational purposes. The rig will comprise the distillation column itself plus the reboiler and reflux condenser with their associated heat sources and sinks, the feed and product reservoirs, the control system and any safety/environmental protection equipment. The column will be designed to facilitate the selection of the feed tray from a range of alternatives and the selection of the reflux return tray in a similar manner. The objective of the equipment is to provide students with experience of operating large-scale equipment. Operation of the rig will be integrated into both under and post graduate teaching programmes. In the former case students will design configurations for the distillation column against a range of suitable targets. Subsequently they will configure and operate the column to evaluate the performance of their designs. In the latter case they will examine the performance of the equipment in response to different control strategies.
The rig is to be installed in the "New" Engineering Building (Engineering 2) currently under construction on the Bailrigg Campus, Lancaster, LA1 4YW.

Lancaster University reserves the right not to award a contract following this tender, nor does it bind itself to accept the lowest price or any quotation. The contract awarded shall not be split in multiple suppliers to fulfil the options.
