Description

The National Composites Centre (NCC) is an independent, open-access national centre that delivers world-class innovation in the design and rapid manufacture of composites, and facilitates their widespread industrial exploitation.
Liquid Composite Moulding (LCM) is one of the core competencies of the NCC and High-Value manufacturing in the UK. In this context, the NCC has identified a need to procure a Large Scale Resin Infusion (LSRI) Capability to directly support key manufacturing and research development programs, whilst widening the potential applicability of LCM processes to large components. This capability must be specified, procured and commissioned to ensure suitability for industrial research and development programs, as well as supporting the maturation of emerging manufacturing technologies from academia towards industrial application.
A key requirement is for a robust system for injecting large resin volumes into a variety of preforms in either vacuum bagged or closed-mould processes. This equipment is to be primarily used in conjunction with a large oven, to produce high quality, high fibre volume fraction composite parts. The injection equipment shall therefore be capable of injecting preforms with both one and two-part resin systems, including aerospace grade epoxies. The system requires closed loop feedback control of key process variables.

The scope of supply is summarised in the following list:
 Design
 Manufacture
 Factory acceptance testing
 Installation and commissioning
 Connection of services to the equipment
 Site acceptance testing
 Operator and maintenance training
 Comprehensive documentation
 Ongoing support and maintenance

Full Specifications and details are within the tender pack located on the e-tendering Portal.
