OVERVIEW OF THE REQUIREMENT

The requirements are set out in the Specification and broadly cover the following objectives;

•Make a daily telephone call to all schools and other educational settings (including, but not limited to, residential special schools; residential care providers with onsite educational provision; private, voluntary and independent alternative education providers; and further education colleges) to confirm the attendance and recorded registration mark.

•Where information is not obtained on the first attempt each day to make a repeat call to the school or educational setting in order to collect this information and to update retrospectively any information not previously available.

•Where children are absent from their school or educational setting without authorisation contact the care placement to inform the carers of the absence and to seek to identify the child's whereabouts.

•Provide attendance and registration information available to the Virtual School for each child on a daily basis, highlighting any anomalies or changes to the child's normal attendance, by secure means and report this in the format or formats required by the Virtual School. This should include whether the child is present or absent and the reason for the absence. Schools should provide the registration mark/code that they have recorded on their own registers. This information can be provided by secure web portal or by secure email.
