Description

We're commissioning research and copywriting into the breadth and variety of place-saving endeavours that took place from 1939-1945 to interrogate 'To what extent was 'place-saving' on the home-front a national phenomenon?'.

We value stories over statistics, however we would prefer the researcher to present both. Researchers should estimate how many places survived WW2 bombing thanks to efforts on the home-front and how many people on the home-front risked their lives to save the places they loved during WW2. They
should also compile local stories of individuals and communities behind these numbers. The project will ideally result in a mixture of memorable and emotive accounts and statistics. However, we welcome responses that favour the story research over both if a strong justification is provided.

We'd like the research presented in the form of 10 image-rich articles for our website. Any possible introductions to living individuals whom Historic England could approach for further content would be appreciated.

The research supports a major piece of public programming about the people who saved St Paul's Cathedral and Coventry Cathedral's during this period. The research must have a national geographic spread, covering (broadly) the South West, London, South East, East of England, Midlands, Yorkshire, North East and the North West. It must cover a range of place-types.
