Description
Reading Borough Council, as part of the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF), is looking to reopen a derelict tunnel under the Great Western Mainline railway in order to provide a new pedestrian and cycle link and is therefore inviting tenders from experience Civil Engineering contractors to undertake all works necessary to convert the disused rail tunnel into a pedestrian/cycle subway link between Napier Road and Kenavon Drive in Reading, Berkshire.
The works will consist of the following construction activities:
•Site clearance
•Fencing and landscaping works
•Installation of foot/cycleway bituminous pavement including kerbing and drainage
•Contractor electrical and illumination design
•Installation of nominated subway lighting and installation of CCTV camera systems
•Application of proprietary anti-graffiti coating to subway walls below arch springing level
•Injection of proprietary waterproofing system to extrados of north and south arch structures
•Localised crack sealing and repointing of arch masonry
The contract, which is expected to start in May 2015, will be for a period of twelve weeks and all works must be completed in accordance with the contract specification and by the deadlines set by the Council. The estimated total value of the contract is circa 300,000 GBP.

This is a competitive procurement exercise being conducted in accordance with the Council's Contracts Procedure Rules. In addition to the hard copy required tenderers must also provide an electronic version of their ITT submission on an encrypted memory stick (USB).
