Improving dementia services is recognised as a key priority for the NHS - both nationally and locally. National goals for diagnosis by 2020:
• Achieve and maintain a diagnosis rate of at least two-thirds of the expected prevalence
• Increase the number of people being diagnosed with dementia and starting treatment within 6 weeks of referral.
National goals for post diagnostic support by 2020:
• Improve quality of post-diagnostic treatment and support for people with dementia and their carers.
• All people with dementia given the opportunity for advance care planning.

In 2017/18, Brighton & Hove CCG was rated by NHS England as 'inadequate' on dementia and has committed to improving access to diagnosis and support for all people living with cognitive impairment or a diagnosis of dementia and their carers.

Key Aims and Objectives
Aim 1: Provides commissioners with confidence that service specifications and operational standards are consistently met.
Aim 2: Provides timely access to person-centred, accurate assessment and diagnosis for people with suspected memory impairment and people living with dementia (and their carers) living in the community.

Aim 4: To promote and support the wellbeing of people with dementia and their carers known to the service.
Aim 5: To support the development of the workforce and volunteers, providing the
Service with the right attitudes and skill mix.
Aim 6: To promote a positive experience of services to people with dementia and
their carers.
