Description

The Trust is looking for a supplier(s) for the creation and on-going delivery of a system of public deliberative panels. The aim is to secure high quality, year round, structured engagement with local people across Yorkshire.

Ambulance Service (YAS) is in the process of developing a new corporate strategy for the coming five years. The strategy will encompass the entirety of YAS operations and will include plans for a radical transformation programme across its urgent and emergency services, the 999 and NHS111 call centres (including development of a world-class shared clinical advisory hub) and patient transport services.

An important step in the process of developing the strategy is meaningful engagement with a range of stakeholders. To that end, YAS wishes to stage two deliberative style events in early summer 2016.

One event will be for corporate and/or quasi-political stakeholders such as local MPs, local authority members (including Chairs of Overview and Scrutiny Committees) and NHS commissioners and providers. The second event will be for patient representatives, those representing the local communities in Yorkshire (such as Healthwatch) and the third sector.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) was formed on 1 July 2006 following the
merger of South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire Metropolitan and Tees, East and North Yorkshire (East and North Yorkshire areas only) ambulance services.

In the years since 2006, YAS has demonstrated a strong track record of improving patient services through the adoption and implementation of innovative clinical practices and improving equipment and technology.
The Trust now employs over 4,000 staff that, together with over 3,000 volunteers, provide 24-hour emergency and healthcare services to a population of more than five million people.

The Trust's main roles are to:

1) receive 999 calls in our virtual emergency operations centre, based on two sites in Wakefield and York, and deploy the most appropriate response to meet patients' needs.
2) respond to 999 calls by getting medical help to patients who have serious or life-threatening injuries or illnesses as quickly as possible.
3) take eligible patients to and from their hospital appointments with our non-emergency Patient Transport Service provide the region's NHS 111 urgent medical help and advice line.

YAS responds to over 750,000 emergency 999 and urgent calls and undertake approximately one million patient transport journeys per year across the region. The new NHS 111 service for less urgent calls is expected to handle more than 1.4m calls per year across Yorkshire and the Humber, as well as Bassetlaw, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire. The Trust also provides major incident resilience, medical and first aid support.

In addition, YAS supplies ambulance cover for private functions and public events (the private and events service), training, fleet and ...
