Description
The Tram Train pilot is a new unique operation linking heavy and light rail infrastructure (train and tram) systems and operations together to provide a new transport service between Sheffield and Rotherham. The vehicles are designed to run on both the Stagecoach Supertram system and the national rail network.
The Tram Train service provides better connections between Rotherham and Sheffield and aims to reinvigorate the local economy. This was launched on 25th October 2018
Ahead of this launch, travel preference research was carried out to understand why customers currently travel by train between Rotherham and Sheffield. This research was carried out in September/October 2018.
As a follow up to this, additional travel preference research is to be undertaken in February/March 2019:
1. Repeat the train research carried out in September 2018
2. Conduct a new piece of travel preference research at 2 new stop locations for the tram train operation
These research pieces will profile respondent's travel patterns on both train and tram train, indicating whether trips made on tram train are new trip or are a switch from another public transport mode
