Description
Stable isotope mass spectrometer for the on line analysis of trace gasses (CH4 and CO2). Substrates to include fluids (dissolved gases), pure gas extracts and mixed air composition. The MS and prep system would be expected to analyse, in an automated manner, both 13C and 2H in methane and 13C in CO2 through a range of sample concentrations from atmospheric to % levels on no fewer than 20 samples per run. For 13C analysis we would expect a precision of better than 0.1‰ and for 2H we would require a precision of better than 3‰ when calibrated against international/ available standards. These specifications would be met over several runs of 20 samples, demonstrating that a range of sample concentrations can be analysed with minimal linearity effects. The analysis of longer chain hydrocarbons such as ethane would be beneficial and details of how this capacity could be met are required.
