Description
Central Bedfordshire Council has appointed a training provider to deliver free PCV driver training through a skills boot camp model.
Driver shortages are impacting on the ability of bus operators and local transport authorities to develop the local public transport network. Whilst many operators have their own recruitment processes and driver training schools, the objective of the PCV skills boot camp is to supplement this training provision and encourage
additional candidates who are wanting to find employment, or those who want a
career change.
The following elements will be required.
o The training provider will develop a modular training course, to be delivered in small groups, at regular intervals, which will support every candidate to gain the skills and licences required to drive a large PCV.
o The training provider will promote the PCV boot camp to residents of the Central Bedfordshire, Luton, and Bedford council areas
o The training provider will be responsible for the recruitment of trainees, using a range of methods in their recruitment processes, e.g. promotion at community events, targeted social media campaigns, referrals from DWP etc.
o The training provider should seek the involvement and support of the local bus and coach operators in the recruitment process, or, at least prior to the commencement of the training
o The training provider will support every candidate to secure their provisional driving licence and medical examination
o The modular course content should include other aspects beyond the driver training modules, such as disability awareness, professional conduct, interview training, CV writing and job coaching
o The training provider will support every candidate to prepare and pass their online theory tests
o The training provider will ensure a minimum of 20 hours driving, 4 hours reversing and 4 hours Drivers CPC Module 4 training, to support every candidate to prepare and pass their practical category D driving test
o The training programme should allow for one retest, where necessary
o The training provider should work with the local bus and coach operators so that all learners receive a guaranteed interview for a real role
o Throughout their training, the provider will a ensure that every candidate receives wraparound support, tailored to the needs of the individual, assisting with job applications, CV advice and preparing for an interview
o Each training programme must be delivered within a maximum of 16 weeks
