Description

The aim of the project is to improve understanding of the benefits of UK marine habitats with regard to coastal erosion, flood risk, climate change and biodiversity management. The project will apply innovative monitoring techniques to improve understanding of the influence of existing marine habitats on erosive processes and flood risk within UK coastal areas. Additionally, several suitable sites will be identified to implement proactive actions to restore and re-introduce marine habitat in locations where it is in decline or not currently present. The findings from these pilot sites will be used to quantify the costs and benefits of innovative marine nature-based solutions in a UK context, including an assessment of the holistic benefits of such actions. Therefore, the project will generate evidence and learning which can be applied in developing future strategies for the management of coastal erosion and flood risk across the UK coastline.

We are seeking expressions of interest from parties who believe that they can deliver any of the project objectives. We are especially interested in hearing from those who have expertise in the field of coastal monitoring, particularly monitoring of wave attenuation and suspended sediment transport. Expressions are appropriate from those that have equipment/methods to monitor the following benefits or have capacity to develop new monitoring techniques in the following:
• Flood and coastal erosion
• Carbon sequestration of marine habitat
• Biodiversity net gain
• Water quality
