The estimated value of the contract will be between £700,000 and £1,400,000 subject to spending review outcomes.

In October 2014 the Secretary of State for Education announced the government's intention to introduce assessment and accreditation at three levels of practice: Approved Child and Family Practitioner; Practice Supervisor; and Practice Leader.

This contract forms part of the plans to introduce a new status of Practice Leader for child and family social work, as part of the wider social work reform programme. Practice Leaders are qualified social workers with day-to-day operational responsibility across the whole local system for child and family social work practice, usually referred to as the assistant director of children's social care or director of family services within local authorities.

The knowledge and skills statement for Practice Leaders, drafted by the Chief Social Worker for England (Children and Families) describes what Practice Leaders should know and be able to do. It is currently being amended by the Chief Social Worker following consultation and can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/social-work-knowledge-and-skills-for-supervisors-and-leaders.

An assessment and accreditation programme will ensure we are enabling Practice Leaders and aspirant Practice Leaders to demonstrate the leadership skills that they need to run effective services with an unrelenting focus on the quality of frontline practice. It will also allow Practice Leaders to develop the networks of support and challenge that will help to strengthen the system.

As part of the government's social work reform programme, we would like to invite you to a tender information workshop on Friday 16 October, at the Department for Education(DfE), Sanctuary Buildings, Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3BT, from 10am to 3pm.

See 'Attachments' for further information on the workshop.
