Description
Leeds City Council (LCC) invites costed proposals for a conservation plan for a unique historic site of national and international significance. The purpose of this commission is to inform longer-term conservation of the site and to develop the visitor experience.
Located on two islands between the River Aire and the Aire & Calder Navigation Canal, Thwaite Watermill is an important industrial heritage site two miles from Leeds City Centre. The watermill is a key example of a 19th century grinding mill that continued to use waterpower until 1975 and, as such, is one of the last remaining examples of a working water-powered mill in the UK.
