Description

The project is the construction of a 5m x 11.6m parking bay, using grass block surfacing, to accommodate 5 to 6 vehicles at Shamley Green Common.

Planning Consent and Commons Consent have been obtained for these works.

Location at TQ0320 4390, opposite the electricity substation next to the Red Lion Inn. Access will be from an access track off public highway D915 that served the old post office, now Speckeldy Hen.

Works details:

Principally the area is to be laid out in a 'Grasscrete' type surface to bear parked vehicle loads. A system of interlocking precast 'grass blocks' is the preferred type. Typical organic fill and grass seed shall be applied to the soil pockets.

As a public facility, for ruggedness, the blocks shall be laid with minimal sand bedding over a graded limestone base layer 225mm thickness allowing permeability. Utilise a woven fabric over formations.

Works to accommodate surface water dissipation.

An edge delineation with the access way shall be laid out in oblong, regularly-trimmed granite sets. This detail is extended, with bed and haunches in strong concrete, to the remaining pavement edges.

Finished landscaping shall utilise 'sleepers' to preserve earth banks and as protection against vehicle overrunning. Similar parking provisions exist at the Red Lion PH alongside.

Appropriate signing and barriers to practiced standards shall protect the general public from works areas. Any operations involving public highways shall be Chapter 8 compliant.

Direct muck away loading may be essential.

A zone of protection shall be set up immediately around the tree line to the satisfaction of the Council's Tree Officer.

Contractor's site storage shall be sited with access convenience and ground preservation in mind and utilising security fencing.
