Description

NHS England (London and South Region) is seeking to identify a suitable provider to provide Adult Respiratory Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) services for the South West of England/North Central and North West of London (including the hospitals from the old North Central network: Royal Free, UCLH, Whittington, Barnet North Mid, which is now part of North East and Central ACC) and is defined by the four Adult Critical Care Networks of South West Peninsula, Avon and Gloucester, Thames Valley and North West London and the additional referrals from the specific hospitals set out above.Adult Respiratory Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation Service Requirements

The adult respiratory ECMO service provision encompasses:
• Acceptance of patients referred to the service who fulfill the eligibility criteria for entry to the service
• Specialist retrieval
• Assessment (up to a maximum of 48 hours)
• Treatment: provision of extracorporeal life support through a pathway of care
using standard clinical protocols.
• Post treatment support (post decannulation up to a maximum of 48 hours)
• End of life care

ECMO centres will be expected to:

• Anticipate, plan for and manage seasonal variation
• Respond as part of a national system to unanticipated surges in demand, over and above the seasonal demand

It is intended that the services will commence on the 1st July 2017. Contract Duration - The contract let as a result of this procurement to deliver the Services will be 36 months (up to the 30th June 2020 followed by an optional extension period, to be exercised solely at the Authority's discretion, of two (2) years (up to 30th June 2022)). Therefore if all extension options are used, the maximum (extended) contract period will be 60 months. (Yr historic spend £2.6m)
