Description
Radioactive Waste Management Limited (RWM) is a subsidiary of Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). Our vision is to provide a safer future by managing radioactive waste effectively, to protect people and the environment, and our mission is to deliver a UK Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) and provide radioactive waste management solutions.
Through engagement with NDA's Site Licence Companies (SLCs) and other waste packagers, via the Disposability Assessments Process, RWM is in the unique position of being able to oversee and influence the management of Higher Activity Waste (HAW) by identifying opportunities and sharing best practice.
The HAW Programme works in conjunction with other functions in RWM and with waste packagers to identify and deliver solutions to optimise the management of HAW. This includes:
• Support to NDA strategy development and delivery, including areas such as:
o Integrated Radioactive Waste Management
o Magnox decommissioning strategy
o Problematic Waste
o Near Surface Disposal
• Collaboration with Site Licence Companies (SLCs) to explore relatively near term opportunities that can:
o Progress site Lifetime Plans (LTPs)
o Reduce risk across the waste lifecycle
o Deliver cost savings
o Support application of the waste hierarchy
The aim of this Framework is to provide fast, streamlined access to a range of suitably qualified and experienced specialist resources and services to support delivery of all aspects of the HAW Programme. It is expected that Framework Contracts issued under this Framework Agreement will commence in February 2020 and will have a duration of 4 years with a maximum total value of services to be procured through this Framework Agreement, across all Lots over the 4 year duration, is £9,500,000.
Further information on RWM and the work that it undertakes to deliver a GDF and provide waste management solutions can be found via our website: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/radioactive-waste-management
