Description

This contract is for the repair of Crowley Dam which is located in Winlaton Mill, Gateshead.

Crowley Dam forms part of Winlaton Mill Ironworks, (Scheduled Monument 1021272).

The dam and associated spillway (together referred to as the Dam within the tender documents) are part of the few remaining, upstanding structures. Most of the large and complex site is protected as it is buried beneath the ground. The Dam is a robust stone structure, believed to have been built by 1760.
