Description

Scope

As outlined in section 1, the Historic Building Carbon Reduction and Climate Resilience Challenge is seeking to provide valuable recognition of best-in-class action in hard-to-treat historic buildings as a way of incentivising climate readiness in the Square Mile.

The project will not be undertaking any retrofit works directly on historic buildings. Rather, it is seeking to capture and share knowledge, data and insights with a broad range of stakeholders active in this field.

Therefore, the programme will:

- Identify and emphasise some of the major barriers and opportunities to achieving carbon reduction and climate resilience of historic buildings
- Highlighting best practice and innovation in carbon reduction for historic buildings and protection from harm to the fabric and historic significance of such buildings in the Square Mile.
- Promote the business opportunity of retrofitting historic buildings and provide examples of cost / benefit analysis in terms of carbon and financial payback over time and at scale
- Identify opportunities and challenges posed to historic buildings from hotter drier summers, warmer wetter winters, more frequent extreme weather events and sea level rise
- Engage a broad range of innovators from across the development supply chain
- Provide insights and guidance on the carbon reduction and climate resilience of historic buildings based on real-world case studies

The project is expected to be 6 months in duration.
