Description

Liverpool Early Help Services provide support to families with emerging needs. We have identified that there is a need to provide interventions to reduce the impact of intimate partner violence. Individuals who display domestically abusive behaviours towards their partners have often experienced significant trauma in their own childhoods. These negative experiences can result in complex trauma that can manifest as low self-esteem, severe insecurity in relationships, emotional dysregulation, and high stress responses. For some people these needs can result in controlling and aggressive/violent behaviours towards their partners.

The specialist intervention will help clients to achieve positive behaviour change by resolving their past trauma and gaining an understanding about how those past experiences contribute to their current aggressive behaviours.

Supporting positive behaviour change for perpetrators of intimate partner violence benefits the whole family by reducing the risk of harm to their partners and reducing the likelihood of their children experiencing ACEs and traumatic incidents, thereby helping to reduce generational patterns.
