Description

The 'Workflow Optimisation' scheme is one of the ways Brent CCG is continuing to support Primary Care practices in delivering the General Practice Forward View and the 10 High Impact Actions. This scheme looks at the 4th High Impact Action 'Productive Workflow' and looks at focusing on managing clinical correspondence more effectively, which will ultimately develop the GPs workforce administrative teams.
The volume of clinical correspondence received by practices has increased over recent years and unfortunately appears to be continuing to increase. This is one of the contributing factors that is affecting clinical time and therefore, by managing correspondence and optimising workflow more efficiently and effectively we can look at delivering significant reductions where there are large amounts of correspondence reaching the GP's desks and have potential of 'releasing clinical time'.
As specified in the GPFV, to release clinical time will involve time in training and developing the Practices workforce. Developing the workforce will not only help retain staff but also improve their job satisfaction.
It is essential that this scheme ensures that the workflow is accurate and has overarching robust governance in place to support consistent coding/updating of medical records.
