Description

Covid-19 has caused widespread disruption across the global aviation industry and subsequently affected global travel trends. The DfT requires access to a detailed dataset on flight schedules to monitor the capacity of the aviation sector and respond to any business-critical disruption in air transport, including the Covid-19 pandemic.

To both anticipate and identify disruptions to flights, the DfT requires detailed information about flight schedules at UK and overseas airports in an accessible format which is easy to analyse. The service should enable unrestricted download of data snapshots, both forward looking and historical, at least on a weekly basis. The data will need to be provided in a format that suits DfT business requirements, in a tool that is easy to query and considering the option for direct API access to the data.

This data will directly feed into the DfT's contingency planning and response, being used by analysts to get a retrospective and forward look of flights and be able to identify any potential for disruptions in advance. The DfT would be seeking a one-year subscription to this data provision with the possibility to extend for another year.

The DHSC requires access to similar data on flight schedules for disease modelling, to identify transport hubs, routes to the UK and connectedness of territories. The subscription to this data service will include one user account for DHSC and its agencies for this purpose.
