Description

HM Coastguard is part of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. HM Coastguard is a national emergency service and coordinates civil maritime search and rescue throughout the UK. It is a 999 emergency service. An important aspect of the Coastguard's work is working to limit and prevent search and rescue incidents at sea and along the coast so that fatalities and injuries are minimized. As such it is important that we ensure that the public is aware that they can call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
2018 will be the 50th anniversary of the release of the iconic Joe and Petunia public information film 'Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard'. The need to promote the 999 message is as important today as it was in the 60s. We therefore propose to capitalise on this anniversary and the current vogue for all things vintage/retro to produce a new version of this old classic, juxtaposing 60s footage of Joe and Petunia alongside brand new footage featuring the modern Coastguard. The new film will be approximately 40 seconds long, to cater for modern tastes for short snappy films and to allow us to use it as a TV filler (Government Information Film). We aim to launch the Joe and Petunia 50th anniversary film in April 2018 ready for the start of the new summer season
