Description

The SCW Clinical Policy Implementation Service support commissioners to achieve the following outcomes with respect to Individual Funding Requests (IFR) and Prior Approvals (collectively known as funding applications):
• To discharge its statutory duties with regard to funding applications, including the review, by panel, of cases that should be for prior approval and management of associated spend in a fair and timely manner.
• To deal with funding applications and appeals fairly, efficiently and in a timely manner.
• To involve referrers appropriately in the assessment (or appeals) process and communicate effectively and in a timely fashion about the case.
An Individual Funding Request (IFR) is an application to fund healthcare which is not usually given by the NHS. These requests are considered by an IFR Panel which considers evidence of clinical and cost effectiveness, as well as equity for the whole population.

A Prior Approval (PA) is a funding request for an application to fund health care which is usually given on the NHS but has a list of things which must be met. These requests are considered through the IFR process. Applications for IFR and PA funding must be made by a patient's NHS doctor or care worker.
