Description

In NHS organisations, the Clinical Coding department is responsible for the translation of medical terminology, as written by the clinician to describe a patient complaint, problem, diagnosis, treatment or reason for seeking medical attention, into a coded format which is nationally and internationally recognised to support both statistical and clinical uses. Coded clinical data (generated from classifications OPCS-4 and ICD-10) uses rules and conventions that, when applied accurately, result in the provision of high quality reporting to support secondary uses of data for statistical purposes - such as; operational and strategic planning, epidemiology, public health analyses of population health and reimbursement. This directly affects clinicians and all healthcare professionals, financial teams, information managers and data analysts, along with IT professionals.

A Clinical Coding System is software which interfaces with an NHS Electronic Patient Record (EPR) to enable computer-assisted coding, coding quality analysis, clinical documentation improvement, performance monitoring and quality outcomes reporting.

Countess of Chester Hospital Commercial Procurement Services would like to engage with suppliers of Clinical Coding Systems. We want to see if there is the potential for a national framework agreement to streamline the contracting process for Clinical Coding Systems.

Please email info@coch-cps.co.uk to express interest in taking part in this early engagement exercise.

Note that this is NOT a call for competition. If we decide to go ahead with a framework for Clinical Coding Systems, we will publish a separate notice.

The purpose of this Early Engagement notice is to conduct preliminary market consultation, with a view to preparing a procurement. Suppliers participating in this market consultation are not guaranteed to receive either an invitation to tender (if invitations to tender are issued), or a place on any framework agreement which may be awarded following an invitation to tender.
