Description

The Contract is being set up to continue the programme of hydrological monitoring on Bolton Fell Moss, Cumbria. The first phase of monitoring ran from July 2011 to 31 March 2013. Data loggers were left in place and then downloaded again in March 2015. The Contract will build on the previous monitoring scheme.
Hydrological monitoring is required at Bolton Fell to provide information on the current hydrological condition of the site, inform the restoration and management of the site and the assessment of initial phases of restoration, and provide data for use in impact assessments e.g. flood risk assessment. The monitoring now forms part of the planning permission for restoration of Bolton Fell Moss, granted by Cumbria County Council in November 2013.
In particular, the Contract will involve monitoring the impact of site restoration works on water levels both within the site and on key areas of adjacent land. This data will also be used to interpret resultant changes in site vegetation.
