Description
The Client (UKAEA) seeks to create a better understanding of the high tensile deformation behaviour of Eurofer97 steel under a 0.5T permanent magnetic field at elevated temperatures (550 °C).
UKAEA wishes to appoint a Consultant to provide tensile testing of Eurofer97 both with and without the application of a 0.5T magnetic field at 550 °C. The EU DEMO and possibly STEP reactors will impose a high magnetic field on the blanket structural materials, of which Eurofer97 is a potential candidate. Any degradation to the engineering properties under a magnetic field will affect the engineering design allowable used for Eurofer97 in future fusion reactors design. Hence, it is important to understand the effect of applied magnetic fields on high temperature tensile properties for Eurofer97 steel during the conceptual design phase, so any effects can be considered during down selection of component designs.
UKAEA wishes to appoint a Consultant that can fulfil three essential criteria including:
Experience of performing experiments under a magnetic field
Excellent research track records on the understanding of the deformation mechanisms of alloys;
Has equipment that can meet our specifications and only requiring a small amount of equipment development;
