Description

The Council requires a supplier for the provision of an intergenerational befriending service to reduce social isolation for older people.

The provider will be required to deliver an intergenerational befriending service, that aims to reduce social isolation for older adults (65+) in Birmingham with support to connect them with younger project participants (aged 18 to 25). It is widely recognised that social isolation is associated with poorer health outcomes and has increased in prevalence during the Covid-19 pandemic. It should therefore be addressed as part of the provider's bid proposal.

The communication within the service is expected to be the periodic correspondence over 6 months to allow relationships to develop and then follow-up meetings if participants choose to do this. Although the exchange of written letters is the suggested communication format, other approaches i.e. emails, and virtual video calls would also be considered, if a strong case for their benefits is made.

This contract will be for a period of 6 months commencing March 2023.
