Description

As part of Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, following the re-development of sites at Alvaston and Chellaston the Council has a sum of money to spend on public artworks in the local area along the cycle route. This contract is part of the Creative Pathways initiative where young people are involved in the concept design of "engineered artwork" structures within a formalised training programme at Engineered Learning.

It is proposed that a sum of money is spent on the installation of up to 4 pieces of the "engineered artworks" to include seating and planters along the National Cycle Route 6 from Merrill College area to the Wilmorton area at Alvaston (location plan section 3.7). Design concepts were undertaken as part of a creative engagement programme by SUSTRANS from April 2016 where local people were asked what they wanted on the cycle route in their area.

The concept designs for the artworks are complete and the Council is now looking to choose a supplier to fabricate, and install including foundations up to 4 structures by June 30th 2017, however one must be fabricated by 31st March 2017. Installation may be deferred beyond this date due to weather conditions and in agreement with Derby City Council.
