The project aims to improve choice of quality services to enable carers to take the breaks and respite care they and those they care for need, by sharing best practice, and improving greater transparency so carers know what is available in order that they can have a choice of appropriate and good quality care so they can get the breaks they need to support and maintain their own health and well being

It is essential that the contractor for this work can offer:
- Expertise and wide-ranging knowledge of the existing evidence base in this area - with particular expertise around carer breaks and respite care.
- Contacts and credibility with those in health settings and local authorities.
- National reputation among carers, policymakers, the NHS and local authorities about how best to identify, support and value carers.
- Skills in assessing evidence and drawing out recommendations.
- Project management and delivery capability including experience in monitoring and evaluating the impact of activities
- Analytical and drafting skills to assess the evidence and bring together a finalised package of resources
- Ability to disseminate and promote the resources through appropriate networks
