Monthly Shellfish Activity Return (MSAR) 1 forms were introduced in 2006 to record information on activity and catch of under 10m commercial potting and netting vessels with shellfish licences. Detailed information such as effort and shellfish captured is needed to increase the amount of useful data available on shellfisheries in England and improve the robustness of national stock assessments for edible crab and lobster, which Cefas produce.
