Description

Cambridge City Council seeks a provider to undertake a survey of the project area to do the following:

i. To identify and delineate land parcels at a suitable scale in the project area
ii. To identify:
a. Trees of interest within each land parcel, for example:
• Probable or confirmed veterans and ancient trees
• Possible veterans and ancient trees
• Potential candidate veteran trees (lacking up to 2 veteran features)
• Potential veteran trees (non-veterans that could be naturally or artificially veteranized)
b. Features of interest, for example:
• Pollards
• Lapsed pollards
• Willow rows
• Maiden trees
c. Potential sites for succession planting

The service provider will also develop a charter document. The charter is intended to be a legacy document encouraging landowners/ managers to sign up to an informal consortium that has a mutual interest in veteran trees, with possible advantages of knowledge sharing and making future umbrella funding bids.

The service provider is also required to develop an engagement plan to get landowners to sign up to the charter and become part of an informal group with a common interest that can share information and collectively bid for funding to manage stock. Local media is expected to be used. Mailouts designed by the successful bidder can be printed and sent out by the council at no cost to the bidder. Direct contact with the larger landowners and managers will be required. These include:
• The Cam Conservators of the River Cam (camconservancy.org)
• University of Cambridge's Colleges Conservators of the River Cam (camconservancy.org)
• The Trumpington Estate Locations & Maps - Trumpington Estate
