Description

The FCO's consular service supports British people around the world when they most need our help. Last year, (FY 2017/18), consular staff provided assistance in 22,000 new consular cases, and managed over 7000 ongoing cases.the FCO works in partnership with other organisations to provide specialist assistance to British nationals abroad, which the FCO is not able to provide. Partnerships are with non-profit charities or non-governmental organisations. One of the partnerships is for the welfare of British nationals in detention overseas. Last year (FY 2017/18), consular staff worked on 5,287 cases involving arrests and detentions.
There are currently over 2,300 British nationals detained around the world.
Proposals are invited from organisations with relevant expertise to form a partnership with the FCO's Consular Directorate in its objective to seek to maintain and improve the quality of life of British nationals detained overseas, to ensure conditions meet at least minimum standards, and their basic welfare needs are met.
