Description

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) intend to commission a translation stage system with 2-axis controlled and 1-axis manual to function as a replacement for the current system in use. The translation X-(horizontal) and Y-(Vertical) axis are

This system will primarily be utilised within NPL's services to provide precise alignment, repeatability, and positional accuracy of test equipment during measurement and calibration services.

This replacement acquisition is in tandem with the current laboratory renovation plans that are being undertaken. As such the commissioning of this acquisition is meant to integrate with the current proposed laboratory renovations. The supplier is expected to be able to coordinate their design with the building contractor (to be named) in charge of laboratory renovations and to ensure that the system design is compatible. The supplier will be responsible to ensure that their system design integrates with the laboratory renovation plans where required.

The following document proceeds to outline the main functional requirements associated for this translation stage system. Each requirement is categorised by its primary functional aspect within which it resides in. This is aimed to allow for the development of an optimum engineering solution to provide for NPL's calibration needs.
