Description

Small specimen test techniques (SSTT) are of key importance for the nuclear industry, since they allow the characterisation of the mechanical properties using very small amounts of material, For STEP, SSTT will be key to maximise the data obtained from the irradiated volumes produced by fission test reactors or future facilities such as IFMIF-DONES. The programme, therefore, aims to develop capability and techniques to analyse localised points in components with complex geometries, heat affected zones or coatings. To support this development, UKAEA wishes to procure a test rig that can perform uniaxial tests on small samples subjected to low and high temperature.
