Description

ENGAGEMENT EVENT - CAMBRIDGESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL CIVIC HUB CAFÉ PROVISION

Date: 18 March 2020

Location: Cambridge

As part of Cambridgeshire County Council's Cambs 2020 programme, the Council will be moving to a new, purpose-built Civic Hub in spring 2021. This building will include a café and following the completion of an options appraisal the programme board have agreed that this offers an exciting opportunity to support social value

The Council are seeking to hold an engagement event for social enterprises and charitable organisations, as it is the Council's preference for such an organisation to run the café. The event aims to provide an overview of the site and vision for the café provision, an opportunity for the project team to gain a better understanding of what the requirements and expectations of this space would be and will conclude with a Q & A session. We shall also issue a questionnaire for return after the event, for attendees to provide more detailed responses to our questions, which shall be treated in confidence.

The Contract is expected to be for an initial period of 12 months, with the potential of an extension, subject to agreement from both parties. The building provides desk space for up to 350 staff with additional footfall likely, as the civic hub will be a publicly accessible building and will therefore also consider these needs. It is anticipated that the café will offer breakfast and lunch (details to be determined).

The approximate size of the kitchen space is 15.5 square metres. It will be fitted with sinks and storage units. It should be noted that the space will not be an industrial kitchen. There will be seating area adjacent to the café.

The council is steadfast in our commitment to health and well-being, as well as our environmental impact. Any offer will therefore be expected to;
• Ensure the provision of nutritious, healthy food and will be working with our Public Health colleagues, as well as the successful provider to co-design a menu that fulfils this.
• Demonstrate and realise a clear vision for reducing the impact of the café provision on the environment, though waste reduction, i.e. single use plastics.

Alongside the café the civic hub will provide vending machines to compliment the café and offer provision outside of the café operating times.

The desired outcome is to provide the workforce working from the Civic Hub with food and drink provision, which is appropriate to the core business hours, with additional provision (drinks and snacks) during wider opening hours, including public meetings. Whilst the anticipated that the customer will primarily be our workforce.

Please note that attendance must be booked prior to the event only. To book a space (there is a maximum of 2 attendees per organisation on a first come first served basis) please contact Rebecca Pentelow at howwework@cambridgeshire.gov.uk by 17 March 2020.
