Description

The Large Structures Testing Laboratory (LSTL) at the University of Southampton requires the design completion, manufacture, and delivery of a Large Laboratory Testing Frame: specifically, a reaction frame to enable vertical loading using the 2.5MN actuator. This reaction frame will support a previously procured and commissioned Instron Hydropuls 2.5 MN (both tension and compression) linear actuator with a total displacement stroke 500 mm. The actuator includes a dynamically rated 2.5 MN load cell, and the ability to attach hinged swivel joints at each end (when needed).
To include an element of future proofing the frame design should also be capable of supporting a 4 MN actuator (unfactored) which is the next actuator largest available.
The large test frame project consists of four phases:

Phase 1: The Contractor is to complete the final design of the testing frame
Phase 2: The Contractor is to manufacture the frame components
Phase 3: The Contractor is to deliver these components to LSTL at the University
Phase 4: The University will assemble the reaction frame onsite as per the Contractor's guidance
