Public Funerals PIN
This Prior Information Notice (PIN) is an indication of potential future procurement activity and may be subject to change. This notice makes no commitment to procure any services. This PIN is not part of any pre-qualification or selection process.
Cornwall Council will be going out to tender in 2020 for the provision of Public Funerals with a contract start date of 1 April 2020.
Short Description:
Contract for the delivery of the statutory Public Funerals, in accordance with Part III, Section 46 of the Public Health (Control of Disease Act) 1984.
Description of the Procurement:
Part III, Section 46 of the Public Health (Control of Disease Act) 1984 places a statutory duty upon local authorities to cause to be buried or cremated the body of any person who has died or is found to be dead within the county of Cornwall and where it appears that no suitable arrangements for the disposal of the body have been or are being made.
It is intended for Cornwall Council to conduct a Tender Process to cover the requirements of Public Health Funerals for 4 years (48 months) commencing on 01.04.20, to enable it to replace an existing framework agreement for the Provision of Public Health Funerals which is extended until 31.03.20. There will be two further extension options each for 2 years (24 months) giving a potential contract length of 8 years (96 months).
Cornwall Council is seeking to appoint a provider or providers to undertake their Public Health Funeral services and supplies. A provider or providers may tender for the delivery of this service for the whole of Cornwall as detailed in the tender specification criteria for this contract. Bids will be considered from individual Suppliers, as well as groups of economic operators who wish to work collaboratively but must cover the whole of Cornwall as specified in the specification.
The contract value is estimated to be approximately £80K per annum giving a potential total contract value of £640K (should both extensions be taken) and it is estimated that on average approximately 60-80 Public Health Funerals will be required each year of the contract.
