Description

Sport Central is a £30 million facility in the heart of the City Campus which offers students, staff and members of the local community access to its fantastic facilities which include:
•4 Sport Halls of which three which can be presented as 3000-seat arena
•120 station gym with a functional rig
•6 lane 25m Swimming Pool with Sauna and Steam Room
•4 lane 40m Sprint Track
•3 specialist laboratories; physiology, biomechanics and nutrition
•3 glass back Squash Courts
Our most popular facility is our gym. Current membership level is 3,546 with 70% of our members being Northumbria University students.
Between August 2018 and February 2019 we had over 65,000 visits to the gym.
In the same period we have delivered 1,422 Group Exercise Classes which had an overall attendance of 13,979 from 1,242 individual members.

The equipment currently on offer in the gym is fast approaching 9 years old, is very dated and in need of replacement.
Technology makes health, fitness and wellbeing more accessible and introducing new equipment will allow us to introduce technology advances over the last decade.
In line with the university strategy we want to improve student and staff health and wellbeing and changing the equipment will help assist us in achieving that.
Replacing the equipment will also aid retention and drive new sales and positively enhance the experience for students, staff and members of the local community
