Description

Birmingham City Council Public Health has been allocated funding towards Tier 2 Adult Weight Management Services to tackle obesity and promote healthy weight.

The prevalence and disease burden resulting from excess weight is a major international public health concern. Almost two-thirds of adults in England are living with excess weight for their height (BMI >=25kg/m2), with similar figures in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Excess weight affects all population groups but is higher for those people aged between 55-74 years, people living in deprived areas and in some Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups compared with the general population. It is established that the health risk of excess weight for some BAME groups occur at a lower BMI than for White populations.

Aims and objectives of the app:
o For adult users aged 18+, to be able to access the app (with no limits on residents of Birmingham able to access the service, if possible). The app will need to be tailored to work with appropriate age ranges based on the needs of those age groups to be determined when contract has been awarded.
o To provide users with advice and support on diet & physical activity which is age appropriate and considers their gender and ethnicity needs where relevant. This element will need to be tailored dependant on the needs and diversity of Birmingham (more details provided in the specification).

This contract will be for a period of 12 months commencing 01/07/2021 until 30/06/2022 .

The Council will be using its free to use e-tendering system (in-tend) for the administration of this procurement process and potential suppliers must register with the system to be able to express an interest.
