Description

We are facing a global climate crisis and the UK has committed to reduce net carbon emissions to zero by 2050. Historic England recognises the urgent need for positive action and is committed to achieving net zero. To do this, it is imperative that historic buildings, both listed and those of traditional construction, are recognised as part of a solution to tackling climate change. Historic England's guidance plays a crucial role in providing advice as to how our historic building stock can be successfully managed and adapted without harming their heritage values and significance.

Historic England has published an extensive suite of guidance on topics relating the adaptation of buildings to climate change risk.
Monitoring and evaluating progress are a crucial component of climate adaptation.
Information about the impacts and successes of adaptation actions helps us to identify success, manage risk and unintended consequences and make the case to continue and scale up initiatives that work.
