Description
The NHS Health Checks programme aims to help prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and certain types of dementia. Adults between the ages of 40 and 74, who have not already been diagnosed with one of these conditions, can be invited (once every 5 years) to have a check to assess their cardiovascular risk and be offered support and advice to help them reduce or manage that risk. The primary outcome of this programme is to reduce premature mortality and morbidity associated with CVD. It should also make a considerable contribution to reducing the health inequalities related to CVD.
