Description
The Authority is looking for suppliers for providing ecological management of the Rhydymwyn Valley Nature Reserve.
Rhydymwyn Valley Nature Reserve is designated as a Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI). It is also a candidate Site of Special Scientific Interest (cSSSI) for its assemblage of reptiles and may qualify as a Local Wildlife Site (cLWS) in the next Flintshire review.
As well as a number of buildings listed under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, the site includes a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM), the Ministry of Supply Valley Site FL210 (FLT), scheduled under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979.
For the last 11 years North East Wales Wildlife Ltd (NEWW) have provided the ecological management of Defra's Rhydymwyn site. Defra are in conversation with the Land Trust for disposal of the site, which will likely conclude in financial year 2018/19. NEWW are contracted until 31/03/2018 to carry out ecological management. Until such time that negotiations with Land Trust are concluded an ecological management plan is required for financial year 2018/19.
The Plan will include habitat management, species/ invasive species management and monitoring of flora and fauna. There are several site designations to be observed such as; Site of Nature Conservation, candidate Site of Special Scientific Interest, candidate Local Wildlife Site, Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade II listed buildings
