Description
The task site is located at Mt Alice and Byron Heights, remote radar outposts of BFSAI in the Falkland Islands (West Falklands) approximately 8,000 miles from the UK in the South Atlantic Ocean.
At each site the refuel pipeline supplies F76 Diesel (80%) and F35 Avtur (20%) mix (a Class III product) from the beach head to the tank farm via a 4" carbon steel overland pipeline. At Mt Alice a distance of 4.2 KM and an elevation of 361 meters. At Mt Byron a distance of 8.6KM and an elevation of 497 meters. Capital maintenance work is required on both pipelines; comprising clearing culverts, groundworks/concreting, replacing concrete plinths with precast blocks, pipeline corrosion removal and repainting, UT testing, minor mechanical works, denzo wrapping, plinth numbering and supply of a bespoke flammable liquid store/container.
Both sites are extremely remote (approx. 12 persons live and work at each site) and facilities are basic. Vehicular access is via rough tracks where 4x4 vehicles are essential and West Falkland is accessed via vehicle by the RORO ferry from East Falkland. Diesel fuel will be provided. All materials required will need to be brought by vehicle as there is no possibility of re-supply on the East island. Contractors will billet at each outpost where messing and accommodation will be provided. Return flights from the UK will be provided and all equipment/plant/vehicles/materials will need to be shipped from the UK via the FIRS (approx. 5 weeks voyage). It is envisaged the work will commence in October/November 2022 during the start of the Austral summer when the climate is most accommodating for the works.
