Description
The Homes & Communities Agency are intending to carry out the demolition, asbestos removal and retention of the façade at Staithes House in Harton Staithes, South Shields and are seeking to appoint a contractor to carry out the works as detailed below:
Demolition of Staithes House and retention of façade and perimeter wall.
Address: Staithes Masters House, 51 Mill Dam, Commercial Street, South Shields NE33 1EQ
The works include:
- The contractor will be required to perform the duties of the Principal Contractor under CDM regulations 2015
- Establishment, maintenance and removal upon completion of the contractor's compound, offices, welfare facilities and storage areas;
- Site clearance;
- Disconnection of all live services to the building;
- Arrange for the removal of any existing meters;
- All temporary works to provide the Works, including but not limited to the following: Drainage, propping, scaffolding, fencing etc;
- Removal and safe disposal of all asbestos;
- Soft strip of the structure;
- Demolition of the building;
- Temporary works to support the building façade during demolition;
- Permanent structural improvement works to the facade;
- Excavation and removal foundations and services up to 1.0m depth;
- Make good the interface between site and the adjacent footway;
- Level site and fill any voids/basements with site won material;
- Removal of all materials from site;
- Levelling of site surface where required to remove trip hazards and replacement of manhole covers;
- Demobilisation.

The closing time for tenders is Wednesday 23rd November 2016 at 13.00.
All discussions, meetings and communications will be conducted in English.
The contract will be subject to English law. Tenders and all supporting documents must be priced in GBP and all payments under the contract will be made in GBP.
Contractors must be licensed by the HSE and also be members of the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA). In addition to ARCA we also recognise ACAD (Asbestos Control & Abatement Division).
This procurement and award is subject to the transparency arrangements being adopted by the UK Government. These arrangements include the publication of tender documentation issued by the HCA and the contract between the HCA and supplier. Bidders should highlight any areas they consider commercially sensitive in order for the HCA to be able to honour our transparency obligations without undermining the bidders commercial interests.
