Description
Following a recent significant increase in badger activity on the Ashby Canal near Snarestone Wharf there is now an urgent requirement for action to reduce the risk of a breach which would be a major incident considering the ecological, financial and reputational impact. This is especially critical as this would be the second breach of this circa 600 metre extension of the Ashby Canal north of the Snarestone Wharf stopgate. LCC are currently investigating potential options for remediation and long-term protection of the canal embankment in this area. However, as Badgers are a protected species, there are specific challenges which will result in longer timescales than are acceptable considering the current risk of breach.\r
